Automotive Aftermarket Retailers of Ontario (AARO) announced they have received funding from the Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development Employment and Training Division to provide training for Electric Vehicle’s to automotive repair technicians in Ontario.

“As our government prepares Ontario to become a leading manufacturer of hybrid and electric vehicles, we need to ensure workers have the skills to keep up with growing demand,” said Monte McNaughton, Minister of Labour, Training and Skills Development. “This three-day training program will ensure automotive repair technicians have the training to earn bigger paycheques for themselves and their families.”

This will be a 3-day training program consisting of a combination of classroom theory and hands-on training utilizing both motor vehicles and Hybrid/EV components. The theory portion of the class will provide instruction on all aspects of Hybrid and EV operations. We will cover each of the systems in depth to give the technicians the knowledge required to work on these vehicles.

In addition, the technicians will receive vehicle instruction on how to properly deal with the High Voltage components of the vehicle. Vehicles and components will be used to teach the technician how to read and interpret scan data from various procedures required to make the vehicle safe to work on by disabling the High Voltage system. Upon completion technicians will have the knowledge and skills required to deal with Hybrid and EV’s. Technicians will also receive a certificate of completion for their records.

Automotive Repair technicians must have achieved at least a Level 3 apprenticeship to qualify for this program.
