The 2017 September issue of CarCare Business is now available online. You can flip through it here, but first, a few words from the Associate Publisher of CarCare Business, Shirley Brown.
Recognize the Value of an Employee: Do You Appreciate…
Appreciation is a big word… but even very small amounts of it can make others happy!
I wonder if you’ve ever stopped to think of that. Appreciation has a lot of power even in petite quantities!
If you haven’t already, isn’t it time you started to appreciate your employees? A simple thing like a ‘Thank You’ after they have done something on their own, or soothed an irate customer, or stayed late to finish a job, or leant a helping hand in an area that wasn’t part of their job is something that needs to be recognized.
A simple thing
People like to be recognized. They want to feel appreciated and valued… quite a simple thing really! Studies have been done about this and it’s been reported that more than 58 percent of employees rarely receive a personal thank you! That’s not good. Everyone likes to be seen and appreciated.
I went on a factory tour once, in a large facility that made batteries. On the way out of the building, I noticed boxes and more boxes that had just been delivered. In those boxes were wrapped articles that looked like submarines to me. They were… only they called them hero sandwiches.
I asked what they were for and was told, “They’re for our employees. Every Friday we buy lunch for everyone who works here!” I was impressed! And think how those employees feel… appreciated! They’re getting a big “Thank You.”
Eager to contribute
Yes, that was a ‘big’ thing to show appreciation, but smaller things work just as well, like the aforesaid “Thank You.” People respond to this. It makes them feel that someone noticed what they do and appreciate their efforts. Your employee would greatly value the recognition that you took the time to acknowledge them. I believe this in turn would make your employees work better, go the extra mile, and likely be more eager to contribute and feel more loyal to you.
If you aren’t doing this now, try it. It could be the start of something better in your business world. It sure can’t hurt!
