Honda is offering Key by Amazon for In-Car Delivery to the U.S.-based subscribers of its HondaLink Remote Services.

Key by Amazon allows Honda customers with Amazon Prime memberships to have packages securely delivered to their vehicles. The service is only available on select trims of the 2018 and 2019 Accord, Accord Hybrid, Insight, Passport, Pilot and Odyssey, with a compatible HondaLink Remote Package subscription.

HondaLink is Honda’s cloud-based connected car system that links the owner’s smartphone and data packages to their vehicle’s embedded telematics system. It provides a variety of services, including:

  • Making service appointments;
  • Enhanced roadside assistance;
  • Recall and vehicle notifications on the smartphone;
  • Geofencing;
  • Speed alerts for parents of teen drivers;
  • Stolen vehicle locator;
  • Automatic collision notification;
  • Remote start; and
  • Personal concierge services.

“The addition of Key by Amazon In-Car Delivery to our HondaLink Remote Package of in-vehicle services comes at no additional cost to subscribers, yet another way we are creating new value for Honda customers,” said Daniel Tiet, Project Leader, Connected Business Development for American Honda Motor. “This latest addition to HondaLink provides a new service, heightening the Honda owner experience in this increasingly connected world.”

How it works

Customers won’t have to pay anything extra for the In-Car Delivery service. Along with a Prime membership and one of the compatible trims, the customer must be located in 50 cities and surrounding areas supported by the Key service.

Using a smartphone to log in to the Key app with their Amazon account information, customers select the year, make, and model of their Honda and agree to app’s request for their HondaLink credentials. By doing so, Amazon delivery agents have limited use of remote features through HondaLink. After the set-up is complete and the delivery location is registered, customer can shop on Amazon.com and select the “In-Car” delivery option at checkout.

On delivery day, customers must park within two blocks of their selected delivery address, will receive a 4-hour delivery window, and an “Arriving Now” notification when the delivery driver heads towards their vehicle, using its GPS location. At the car, the delivery driver scans the package and requests for the vehicle to be unlocked, then relocked once the package is in the car. When the delivery is complete, customers will receive a notification from the app.

For a limited time, Amazon customers will also receive a $10 Amazon gift card after placing their first In-Car Delivery order.
