The 10th edition of the Best of Belron biennial glass fitting and repairing competition, which took place in Frankfurt Germany in June, set a new record, as it welcomed competitors from 30 countries.
Canadian representative Ryan Adams brought home a Bronze medal and €5000 (approx. $7500) in prize money. Representatives of the U.S. and Germany took home the Gold and Silver awards.
In preparation for the event, the Calgary, Alberta, Speedy Glass technician and father of two travelled to Quebec for a rigorous training session with a sports psychologist and Belron Canada technical specialists.
“We’re proud to have someone like Ryan represent Canada at this event,” pointed-out Belron Canada Technical Team Supervisor, André Belleau. “The competition level is intense, 3rd place out of 30 top-level contestants is something to be proud of”.
Over 100 Steps
Spread over the course of two days, the Best of Belron is comprised of each detailed step of the Belron glass fitting and repairing process, which is comprised of over 100 steps.
Each participant is evaluated by two judges as they perform both a windshield repair and replacement, quarter-glass replacement, back-glass removal and replacement and camera recalibration, which was added back in 2016.
Spotlight on Technicians
As André Belleau explains, the goal of this international competition is to highlight the level of expertise of Belron technicians across the Globe.
“Technicians in every country where Belron is present must execute the exclusive Belron glass fitting and repairing process,” he explains. “Competitors must flawlessly execute the detailed steps of the process.”
“At the Best of Belron, it’s the technicians that are front and centre. They are the ones who apply the exclusive Belron processes as they work 0n vehicles. By applying these state-of-the-art processes, they are ensuring the safety of vehicle passengers,” states the Belron executive.
