Toronto’s new car-share service launched on Nov. 24.

Communauto FLEX is the first company to receive a permit under the City of Toronto’s new free-floating car-share pilot program, which is now operating in the city’s downtown core with 200 cars servicing 50 square kilometres.

After the pilot, the company plans to have more than 500 cars covering 100 square kilometres in Toronto.

Communauto FLEX allows members to take one-way trips from wherever a vehicle happens to be, to wherever they need to go. Users are not confined to a fixed drop off and pick up location. The program is free to join and has no monthly fees. Members pay as they go.

“Over 1,000 Torontonians pre-registered for Communauto FLEX in the few days after announcing our intention to launch in Toronto, which is a signal to us that city residents are looking for a new transportation solution,” said Benoit Robert, President of Communauto. “Our mission is to provide increased mobility for all with fewer cars on the road, and we’re looking forward to taking the first step forward by celebrating our launch with community members and partners in Toronto this Saturday.”
