CIAS 2018: Lighter Vehicles, Classic Style

Autosphere » Collision » CIAS 2018: Lighter Vehicles, Classic Style

This year’s Canadian International AutoShow saw an increased number of vehicles using exotic, lightweight and mixed material structures, as well as some standout historical and popular culture vehicles.

Hosted each February, the Canadian International AutoShow always features a tantalizing display of both new and historic vehicles.

With the theme of this year’s show “The New Movement,” there was an understandable focus on new technology and mobility solutions. And, as Corporate Average Fuel Economy standards continue to tighten, there were a number of vehicles on display that featured new or significantly redesigned or updated structures.

Key examples included the 2019 Ram 1500 and Chevy Silverado, which are both significantly lighter than their predecessors and feature extensive use of high strength steel as well as aluminum parts for items like body panels, tailgates and suspension parts.

Other vehicles of interest included the new, lighter 2018 Lincoln Navigator as well as the latest generation of Audi’s aluminum pioneer, the A8, plus a glimpse into the future of automotive construction with vehicles like the Mercedes-AMG Project ONE.
