Subaru Aces IIHS Collision Tests

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the American organization responsible for new-vehicle safety testing, attributed its Safety+ rating in the small car category to both the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek and 2018 Subaru WRX.

In order to receive this highest rating, vehicles must receive a “Good” rating in the five IIHS crashworthiness tests: driver-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraints, as well as an “Advanced” or “Superior” rating for front crash prevention, and a “Good” or “Acceptable” rating for headlights.

Common Platform

The fact that both the 2018 Crosstrek and 2018 WRX received top IIHS safety honors comes as no surprise, as they share an identical “Global” platform. As for the Impreza, which was completely redesigned for 2017, it received the IIHS Safety+ rating a few months ago.

In addition, the Crosstrek also earned a “Superior” rating in IIHS track tests when equipped with the optional EyeSight front crash prevention system. Both models received a “Good” rating when equipped with the optional Advanced Forward Lighting System (available only with Technology package).

“At Subaru, customer safety is our number one priority,” explained Subaru Canada chairman, president and CEO, Yasushi Enami.
