The 2019 “Lead or Be Led” event attracts fleet professionals throughout Canada.
FCA’s 2019 Spring Fleet event kicked off in Calgary on May 14th with stops in Toronto (May 16), Vancouver (May 23), Edmonton (May 30), and Montreal (June 27).
Following a news update from FCA’s Fleet Operations team, the audience learned about all the new 2019 Ram Heavy Duty and the 2020 Jeep Gladiator, which is likely going to be a big hit with the rental side of the fleet industry.
The Gladiator is available in three trims for now—Sport S, Overland and Rubicon. The truck features a three-position tailgate, a 5 ft box, and a front-end trailer camera (and a foldable windshield) for better forward visibility.
Ram tough
The Ram Heavy Duty walk around part of the program focused on the strength, capability, technology and luxury that define this popular workhorse. This impressive truck boasts a 35,100 lb. max tow rating (equipped with the 370 hp / 850 lb. ft. of torque 6.7L turbo diesel engine) or 18,210 lb (equipped with the 410 hp / 429 lb. ft. of torque HEMI V8 gas engine).
To show off just how capable the Heavy Duty truly is, FCA arranged for one to pull a long-haul truck, complete with a trailer, along the road from a dead stop.
The new Ram is available with a long list of advanced technologies, including a surround-view camera, an auxiliary camera for the interior or exterior of the trailer (comes with a 40 ft cable), power convex trailer tow mirrors, mirror mounted rear facing lights, an auto level air suspension, new trailer tire pressure monitoring display (late availability), a RamBox with 115 V outlet, and much more.
Ram sales stats
Currently available in 64 countries, FCA sold 90,000 Ram trucks in Canada alone in 2018, with the 1500 edging out as the clear sales volume leader. The company announced that ordering for the 2020 model year will be available in June/July.
The Closed-Course Drive part of the program gave all in attendance an opportunity to get behind the wheel of the all-new Ram Heavy Duty, the Jeep Gladiator and a number of other vehicles.
