New business unit will focus on rapid creation of proof-of-concept and demonstrator vehicles for Tier 1 suppliers, OEMs, upfitters, and end users.

Efficient Drivetrains (EDI), specialists in advanced high-efficiency zero emissions hybrid and electric vehicle drivetrain solutions, have announced the creation of a hybrid and electric vehicle centre of excellence focused on the development of EV and PHEV commercial vehicles for the North American market.

The emphasis will be on the development of commercial fleet solutions spanning class 3 through 8 for industries including: work trucks, logistics trucks, and mass transportation solutions for utility, municipality, freight, people movement, and port applications.

“Our expanded services offering and vehicle engineering and manufacturing focus, allows our customers to benefit from the experience EDI has developed while engineering and building numerous quick turn hybrid and electric vehicles in the past,” said Joerg Ferchau, CEO, Efficient Drivetrains. “It also provides our customers with a smooth path to production as we can support limited volume builds and also transfer knowledge to them as they establish their production lines.”
