Porsche, BMW and Genesis are at the summit of the 2019 J.D. Power study of the overall appeal of new vehicles. This is the third time since 2017 that these brands have disputed the top three rankings of the study. This year, Genesis and BMW are deadlocked in second place, with a score of 868 points.

As for the mass-market brands, RAM finished on top, followed by Dodge, MINI, Volkswagen, and Ford. RAM also happens to be the brand that improved the most, with an increase of 26 points compared to last year. Overall, new vehicle satisfaction has increased by three points since 2018, as 22 out of 32 brands improved their scores.

According to J.D. Power, one of the reasons for this increase in the overall appeal is the improvement of infotainment systems and the addition of advanced driving assistance systems in most vehicles.

The purpose of this survey is to gather feedback from new owners regarding their new vehicles in 10 categories including styling, performance, comfort, functionality, handling, braking performance, ergonomics, and infotainment system.

Narrowing Gap

For the first time in the history of the study, the gap in appeal between luxury vehicles and mass-market brands is narrowing, as they are separated by only 35 points.
