Continental’s ContiConnect Yard Reader digital monitoring platform has been recognized as one of the 2018 Construction Equipment Top 100 New Products.
Reading all Continental tire sensors in a 65-foot radius wirelessly, the yard reader provides tire pressure and temperature information to a mobile-friendly web portal.
The yard reader suits construction fleets the best, sending alerts to maintenance managers about tire problems while the vehicles are still in the terminal. This helps them perform timely repairs on punctures and creeping air loss before the casing is damaged.
“Continental provides intelligent solutions for the construction industry,” says Paul Williams, Continental’s Executive Vice President of Commercial Vehicle Tires in the Americas region. “ContiConnect provides remote access to tire temperature and pressure. This is key for extending tire life, allowing our customers to achieve their lowest overall driving cost.”
With this award, the company’s digital tire monitoring solutions is being honoured for the second time this year. HDT recognized Continental’s ContiPressureCheck Solo trailer TPMS, a GHG 2-compliant solution for trailer tire monitoring, as a Top 20 product this February.
“ContiConnect is an accessible solution for domiciled fleets, such as those used in construction,” says Michelle Reinhart, Continental’s Head of Digital Solutions for Commercial Vehicles in the Americas region. “We don’t charge by vehicle. The yard reader picks up all the tire sensors within range and delivers the data to the web portal. The portal sends text and email alerts if low pressure or high temperature thresholds are breached, and the trigger levels can be set by each fleet. It’s a simple way to maintain control of your tire program.”
Construction Equipment magazine’s award program identifies and evaluates the most innovate products introduced during the course of the year. The award considers four criteria for winning products—a technological advancement, a new product line, significant enhancement of an existing product and a product that increases competition in its field.
ContiConnect Yard Reader uses three simple components to generate tire pressure and temperature data. Continental’s tire monitoring systems depend on its tire sensors mounted inside each tire. The sensors are designed to deliver accurate data in addition to preventing damage and theft. Mounted in the fleet yard, the yard reader station gathers data constantly from the tire sensors within an approximate 65-foot radius. The analyzed data is then available on the online ContiConnect web portal, which can be viewed on phones and tablets as well.
It is also possible for fleets to set up custom thresholds for low tire pressure or high temperature, within the system’s operating limits. The system sends off text and email alerts if issues arise. Components from Continental’s other digital solutions, such as the ContiPressureCheck system, can also be integrated with this system.
