Nexen Tire has signed up to partner with True North Racing to demonstrate the performance of its leading off-road tires under extreme load and demanding environments.
The tire company will provide its Roadian MTX Extreme Off-Road mud-terrain tires to its partner for the 2019 King of Hammers being held in Johnson Valley from February 1 to 9. The King of Hammers is one of the world’s most challenging off-road racing events.
Contestants are expected to tackle the harsh desert terrain of Southern California for the rigorous desert racing, that includes positional rock crawling, at the event.
True North Racing of Western Canada has selected two highly advanced off-road capable Jeep Grand Cherokee builds for the 4600 Stock Class. For the 4800 Legends Class, a custom-fabricated off-road ‘Brinkfab’ is the vehicle of choice. Nexen Tire’s Roadian MTX Extreme Off-Road tires are fitted to all three vehicles. The company’s popular 35×12.5×17-inch and 37×12.5×17-inch off-road tires are being used at the event.
In a statement released by the company, Nexen Tire says that its Roadian MTX Extreme Off-Road Tire has created a place for itself among off-road enthusiasts as a tier 1 tire since its initial release just over a year ago. An established off-road racing team like True North Racing has therefore chosen Nexen Tire as its exclusive tire supplier for competitive racing.
The contestant line-up of True Racing North for this year’s King of the Hammers event is as follows:
- Joey Shilliday is competing with the 2014 King of the Hammers’ winning #4674 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee in the 4600 Stock Class segment.
- Alex McNeil is driving the #4675 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee in the 4600 Stock Class segment.
- Lyndon Sheppard is driving the Brinkfab Chassis off-road vehicle in the 4800 Legends Class segment.
“We’re excited to finally announce that we will be working with our newest sponsor, Nexen Tire! We have tremendous goals for this year, and Nexen Tire will help solidify those goals and position True Racing North as a top contender during the annual King of the Hammers event,” said Joey Shilliday. “More than 90% of competitors who enter this competition do not finish. Teaming up with Nexen Tire means we have a better chance at winning this year, and we plan to capitalize on that thanks to our new Roadian MTX Extreme Off-Road tires.”
