BMW driver Joel Eriksson took his first win during the 2018 DTM season on the Misano World Circuit, Sunday, August 26th.

 Eriksson started the race in twelfth place on the Hankook slick tire. When the rain started to fall on the ninth lap, Eriksson switched to Hankook‘s wet tire, and began to climb through the field, helped in part by a safety car phase.

“Unlike the rest of the field, I started on the Hankook slick and wanted to stay out on that set of tires for a long time,” said Eriksson. “When the rain started, we switched to the wet tire. This proved to be a direct hit. I was also lucky with the safety car phase, but my win showed that anything is possible in motorsport.”

Eriksson overtook long-time leader Mercedes-Benz driver, Edoardo Mortara when he made his mandatory pit stop on lap 25. Once in the lead, Eriksson was able to defend his position to take the win.
