Hankook Tire has announced that its tires have been selected as original equipment for the new Audi Q8.

The Audi Q8 SUV Coupé is to be fitted with Hankook tires in dimensions ranging from 20 to 22 inches. As stated by the tire manufacturer, three of its tire lines have been selected to equip the four-door SUV Coupé. The summer and winter treads Ventus S1 evo 3 SUV and Winter i*cept evo 2 SUV tire lines respectively in 285/45 R21 113 Y XL and V XL and the Dynapro HP 2 Plus in the sizes 275/50 R20 113H X, 285/45 R21 113H XL and 285/40 R22 110H XL are to be fitted. Hankook Tire states further dimensions of the tires will also be announced for this purpose.

“We are very pleased that our products have again been selected for a new Audi model,” says Hyunjun Cho, Head of OE Division, Hankook Tire. “Even as a long-standing supplier to Audi, it is an honour to have been named original equipment supplier for the top-model of the Q-Series. In addition, we are proud that we will supply the full range of our treads for the Q8 to various markets”.

Hankook designs its tires to offer support for better handling under dynamic driving conditions.

“The central requirement in the course of the development was the tire design. Because of the generally higher vehicle loads with large SUVs and the resulting load index to be fulfilled in combination with the possible high speeds, the durability of the tire design was of course particularly important. In addition, we paid special attention to the required vehicle attributes in both wet and dry conditions,” notes Moonhwa Hong, Vice President of OE Development Department, Hankook Tire.

To strengthen the side wall, the Ventus S1 evo 3 is created with ‘bead packing’, which is a special nylon material added to the side wall area. As explained by the company, to decrease the growth of the unwinding circumference at high speeds (even over 300 kph) by up to 60 percent in comparison with other fabrics, the tire features an aramid composite material as well as a two-layer carcass. Hankook Tire notes that this enables the tire to consistently maintain grip at wide temperature ranges. Additionally, it helps in increasing the life of the tire and gives better driving stability. A special tread compound made with natural resins aids the tire to deliver dynamic performance in both dry and wet road conditions.
