Bridgestone Americas recently announced the latest addition to its fuel-efficient Bridgestone Ecopia commercial truck tire line—the R123 Ecopia.

A SmartWay verified trailer tire, this new product has been designed to deliver low rolling resistance as well as better wear in long-haul and regional service applications.

According to the company, the tire’s low rolling resistance design allows for $400 worth of fuel savings over 16,000 km when compared to the Bridgestone Ecopia R197 tire.

“Bridgestone Ecopia tires are designed with features that reduce fuel consumption, and they are engineered to be fit for retreading later on, making them a smart, sustainable business choice for fleets on a number of levels,” says Kyle Chen, Brand Manager, Truck and Bus Radial Tires, Canada and U.S., Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations (BATO). “Fuel-efficient tires that also deliver big on performance are a demonstration of our dedication to help lower the total cost of tire ownership and drive efficient mobility for all fleets.”

The new tire is equipped with an IntelliShape sidewall that not only helps in minimizing rolling resistance but also decreases the overall tire weight. To minimize energy loss and enhance its fuel economy, Bridgestone’s patented NanoPro-Tech polymer technology has been used in the tire.

According to the company, the new tire also contains the following features:

  • For lower rolling resistance and better fuel economy, the tire sports a fuel-efficient tread design.
  • Its innovative tread pattern is designed to deliver increased traction and better grip on wet roads. Additionally, it promotes a longer, even wear by absorbing tread edge stress.
  • Long removal mileage is possible due to its optimized tread volume.
  • Bridgestone has equipped the tire with a specialized defense groove structure to help establish even pressure at the tire shoulder, besides reducing tread edge wear.

In a release by the company, Bridgestone suggests that fuel-efficient tires, as well as retreads, together may help fleets enhance the life of their tire casings, decrease fuel costs further and reduce the overall cost of tire ownership. The Bridgestone R123 Ecopia tire has been engineered to optimize the total tire lifecycle. Combined with Bandag FuelTech retreads, it promises to help fleets capitalize on tire performance potential, cut down fuel costs and make efficiency in mobility.
