Valvoline has announced that it has developed a motor oil specifically to meet the demands of hybrid vehicles on the road—Valvoline Hybrid Vehicle Full Synthetic motor oil.
Valvoline plans to launch the oil in early 2020, offering it in 5W-30 and 0W-20 grades. The company notes that the oil is designed to meet industry standards and will be providing coverage for most hybrid models being manufactured and used today.
“Innovation is in our DNA, so we are constantly striving to develop new products and formulations that meet future consumer demand,” said Heidi Matheys, Valvoline Chief Marketing Officer. “No matter your vehicle type, Valvoline has tested and proven products to help keep it performing at its best for the life of the vehicle.”
Earlier this year, Valvoline had launched a product line specifically dedicated to electric vehicles. The company wishes to demonstrate its continued commitment towards developing innovative new solutions with this upcoming launch.
The company explains in a release that although hybrid engines are similar to traditional engines, they still pose challenges that fluids and lubricants are required to overcome. One challenge is the constant start and stop of hybrid engines that could prevent warm-up and hinder performance. Since the engines operate in low temperatures, this can lead to extra water vapour dissolving into the oil. Consequently, this could create sludge, cause corrosion and breakdown of motor oil, hampering both fuel economy and engine life.
“Valvoline’s pursuit of new solutions to new problems challenges our unique in-house Valvoline Engine Lab to create flexible formulas that are proven to extend engine life,” said Fran Lockwood, Valvoline Chief Technology Officer. “Valvoline Hybrid Vehicle Full Synthetic motor oil contains a special blend of additives and superior antioxidants to provide the ultimate protection for hybrid engines.”
Valvoline will be offering its hybrid motor oil for sale through e-commerce and special order.
