LIQUI MOLY has introduced a new motor oil in North America that meets the latest BMW specification—Top Tec 6000.
“This will be the first time that a new oil for a German model has not been launched first in Germany,” says Sebastian Zelger, Director LIQUI MOLY USA.
Designed for all latest gasoline engine BMWs except the M series, the new Top Tec 6000 0W-20 oil from LIQUI Moly will come with the latest BMW approval Longlife-17 FE+. Additionally, the oil will also be meeting the requirements for Volvo approval VCC RBS0-2AE and API SN Plus + RC and latest Mercedes approval MB 229.71.
“Top Tec 6600 is a good choice for workshops that service the latest BMW and Mercedes models. They can use one oil for both brands,” notes Zelger.
LIQUI MOLY explains in a release that BMW’s Longlife-17 FE+ targets a decrease in the risk of causing low speed pre-ignition (LSPI) which caused the mixture to ignite spontaneously in the combustion chamber before the ignition spark. This could result in motor knocking and further serious motor damage. The company notes that using the proper motor oil decreases the risk.
LIQUI MOLY adds that there are no BMWs yet that are compatible only with Longlife-17 FE+ oil and not others. The company cautions against using the new Top Tec 6000 0W-20 oil in BMWs for which older Longlife standard oils are specified.
“That is why we are not expecting to sell lots of Top Tec 6600 at the start”, explains Zelger. “But again, we are at the apex of this development.”
LIQUI MOLY has designed its Top Tec range to conform to a wide range of specifications. Following the automotive industry trend of using lower viscosity oils for better fuel economy and lower emissions, the new oil comes in the 0W-20 viscosity. The challenge, according to the company, with lower viscosity oils is to ensure that the engine receives enough lubrication even with heavy loads. “Top Tec 6600 is outstanding at achieving this”, comments Zelger.
