New strut assembly offers the best of both worlds.
Tenneco is launching a new product line called Monroe Magnum. These loaded strut assemblies are specifically engineered for half-ton light-duty trucks—F150, Silverado, Ram 1500, and Toyota Tundra.
Available in early 2019, the Monroe Magnum takes advantage of synergies within Tenneco.
“We’re able to combine these product offerings,” a company spokesperson told CarCare Business at AAPEX this year. “From an engineering perspective it’s exciting to be able to fine tune the ride control to match with the steering, suspension and the braking systems.”
This is going to be a halo line, with only eight SKUs, but it’s meant to be a new category for multi-purpose trucks—people who use them as their daily drivers, as well as for towing, hauling and ploughing.
The new strut assemblies have a variable rate coil spring. “As you weigh it down it handles much better and offers better control,” said the spokesperson, “but when you take the weight off, it still offers a pleasant ride. It also has custom valving in the base, which is what we call acceleration sensitive damping, so as you hit bumps it opens and closes, taking a bit of the rough ride out.”
