The 2017 December issue of CarCare Business is now available online. You can flip through it here, but first, a few words from the Associate Publisher of CarCare Business, Shirley Brown.

Here’s That Word Again— Change!

I attended the AARO Conference in October and they had several very interesting speakers. They all seemed to have the same direction in their remarks… CHANGE!

I know many people hate change, so you’re going to have a tough time dealing with what’s ahead according to the “Gurus of Change”. It’s very important that you do change, however. It’s the only way you will be able to keep your business going in a forward direction and not lose out.

One of those speakers told those in attendance that brake diagnosing is going to change dramatically… so look ahead. Get your techs to all the training courses you can… get them ready. And jobbers, you will need to look ahead for the different parts that will soon be appearing in your store.

Equipment changes

Another part that has changed considerably is the bearing… more training will be needed here as well. In fact, this speaker told attendees that the “auto industry is going to drastically change our universe and will disrupt many jobs!” Another sector that will be impacted is the scan tool… it is going to become very, very important to have the correct ones in your toolbox and have more security on it…. OEs are

now using software scan tools!! And reflashing will become more critical. The speaker advised that you take a good look around your shop and get rid of anything that you are not able to make money with. Take a good look and see what you can dump!

Training will become more and more important, so don’t procrastinate. Get your techs ready for the future. If you embrace change and take good a d v i c e a b o u t i t , you’ll make it. If you don’t, look out!

While you’re at it, look at your succession/exit plan. Have a family meeting if someone in the family is not going to take over the business. Get all your ducks in a row, and don’t leave your family hanging out there not knowing anything about your business and what is going to happen to it. If you happen to pass away, the Government will send the first “condolence” letter to your family… asking for money!

So heads up. Be aware of change.
