As Automechnika Frankfurt opened its doors on September 13 at the massive Messe Frankfurt complex, the winners of the 2016 Automechanika Innovation Awards gathered to receive recognition.

The Innovation Awards ceremony took place in the ‘Saal Panorama’ of the Forum at 10.00 am local time.

An interesting trend was, out of the 130 entries, 72 percent came from countries outside of Germany, a 30 percent increase in international entries compared with the previous Automechanika Innovation Awards program.

Automechanika exhibitors were invited to enter their innovations in the following eight categories: Parts & Components, Electronics & Systems, Accessories & Customizing, Repair & Diagnostics, Repair & Maintenance, Management & Digital Solutions, Car Wash, Care & Reconditioning and OE Products & Services.

Additionally, a ‘Green Award’ was given out for the very first time at this event. Continental Reifen Deutschland GmbH was awarded recognition for its WinterContact TS 850 P tire made of ‘Taraxagum’ dandelion rubber, a product, which was also declared the winner in the Innovation Award Accessories & Customizing category.
