Quand le garagiste et restaurateur de voitures antiques Andr\u00e9 Fitzback a achet\u00e9 une Pontiac Pathfinder 1953 il y a 25 ans, il ne pouvait se douter qu\u2019il s\u2019engageait dans une histoire de passion qui dure encore aujourd\u2019hui.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Pay\u00e9e 3500\u00a0$ cette voiture rare, construite au Canada \u00e0 5512 exemplaires, \u00e9tait en \u00e9tat de marche. Mais il ne fallut pas longtemps pour que son propri\u00e9taire r\u00e9alise qu\u2019elle souffrait d\u2019un probl\u00e8me de rouille structurelle tellement avanc\u00e9 qu\u2019elle en rendait la conduite pour le moins approximative.<\/p>\n

Commence alors un chantier colossal o\u00f9 la voiture sera compl\u00e8tement d\u00e9mont\u00e9e et o\u00f9 chaque pi\u00e8ce sera identifi\u00e9e avant d\u2019\u00eatre remise en condition ou remplac\u00e9e. Le m\u00e9canicien de formation a restaur\u00e9 chaque composante. \u00ab\u00a0Tout se r\u00e9pare ou se remplace\u00a0\u00bb, est sa devise.<\/p>\n

Quand on lui demande combien d\u2019heures et d\u2019argent il a investis dans ce projet, il nous r\u00e9pond\u00a0:<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0Les heures, j’avais commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 les compter, mais au bout d’un moment, j’ai perdu le fil… J’ai tout fait moi-m\u00eame, sauf les si\u00e8ges et la carrosserie.<\/p>\n

J\u2019ai cependant 22\u00a0000\u00a0$ de facture pour tout ce qui est travaux de carrosserie et peinture. Avec un \u00ab\u00a0peu\u00a0\u00bb de rouille \u00e0 r\u00e9parer, c’est impossible de peindre correctement une voiture avec 5 ou 8\u00a0000\u00a0$.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n

Au fil des travaux, on s\u2019en doute, plein de petites surprises se sont d\u00e9voil\u00e9es. Mais dans ce projet de restauration, le plus grand d\u00e9fi selon M.\u00a0Fitzback a \u00e9t\u00e9 de modifier un ch\u00e2ssis 1952 en mod\u00e8le 1953, et par la suite l’utiliser sous sa voiture, et ne pas voir la diff\u00e9rence, malgr\u00e9 qu’au d\u00e9part, les trois premiers pieds seulement \u00e9taient semblables.<\/p>\n

Il aura fallu attendre 2015 pour que la voiture, jadis verte maintenant rouge, fasse ses premiers tours de roue.<\/p>\n

Cette voiture, avoue le restaurateur, fait partie de la famille depuis 25 ans. C\u2019est une voiture antique toujours active que son propri\u00e9taire, apr\u00e8s tant d\u2019efforts, appr\u00e9cie encore plus la conduite.<\/p>\n

Tout en travaillant sur les voitures de ses clients, notamment une Corvette 1958 dont il doit changer le ch\u00e2ssis, Andr\u00e9 Fitzback est \u00e0 restaurer une roulotte Serro Scotty 1960.<\/p>\n

Elle sera tir\u00e9e par la Pontiac. Nous lui avons demand\u00e9, pour le plaisir de nos lecteurs, de nous envoyer des photos une fois le tout termin\u00e9.<\/p>\n
