La triste nouvelle du d\u00e9c\u00e8s de Dave Redinger, le 7 f\u00e9vrier 2022, a raviv\u00e9 pour beaucoup d’entre nous des souvenir de cette sommit\u00e9 du secteur. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Quiconque a rencontr\u00e9 Dave Redinger a \u00e9t\u00e9 imm\u00e9diatement attir\u00e9 par son charisme : un grand sourire radieux, un rire franc et une bonne humeur authentique. Ce n’\u00e9tait que l’un de ses nombreux traits de caract\u00e8re, un int\u00e9r\u00eat sinc\u00e8re pour les personnes de son entourage, qu’il s’agisse de clients, de techniciens, de coll\u00e8gues ou d’un enfant d\u00e9sireux d’en savoir plus sur les voitures.<\/p>\n

C’est ce dont Mark Sachs-Anderson, aujourd’hui propri\u00e9taire et exploitant de WrenchSpinner, anciennement Dave’s Corner Garage, se souvient de lui. Alors que Mark n’avait que 15 ans, il s’est rendu dans l’atelier de Dave (qui s’appelait alors Dr. H. Honda Specialists) et s’est retrouv\u00e9 \u00e0 r\u00e9parer des transmissions. Mark se souvient : \u00ab Dave n’\u00e9tait pas seulement un patron, c’\u00e9tait un ami et un mentor. Je pouvais me confier \u00e0 lui et il m’\u00e9coutait, on pouvait lui parler de tout. \u00bb<\/p>\n

Dave \u00e9tait un m\u00e9canicien n\u00e9, qui avait sa propre approche de la r\u00e9paration automobile. Bien qu’il respectait l’aspect traditionnel de la r\u00e9paration automobile, certains d\u00e9fis exigeaient une approche innovante. Mark se rappelle la fa\u00e7on dont Dave s’occupait des gaskets de t\u00eates saut\u00e9s sur les Chrysler K-Cars, Reliants et autres produits connexes. \u00ab Selon les manuels, la r\u00e9paration devait prendre cinq \u00e0 six heures. Mais gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 son ing\u00e9niosit\u00e9, Dave a ramen\u00e9 le processus \u00e0 moins d’une heure. \u00bb<\/p>\n

Esprit entrepreneurial<\/strong><\/h2>\n

En fait, la curiosit\u00e9 sans limite et l’esprit d’entrepeneur de Dave l’ont conduit dans de nombreux endroits, parfois inattendus. Lorsqu’un ami travaillant dans le secteur des v\u00eatements s’est plaint de vols r\u00e9p\u00e9t\u00e9s, Dave a invent\u00e9 une \u00e9tiquette de s\u00e9curit\u00e9 pour lutter contre le probl\u00e8me et a cr\u00e9\u00e9 une entreprise, qu’il a appel\u00e9e \u00ab Sticky Fingers \u00bb (doigts collants).<\/p>\n

Sa connaissance infinie de l’industrie automobile lui valait d’\u00eatre souvent cit\u00e9 dans les m\u00e9dias et d’\u00e9crire des chroniques pour diverses publications, dont, bien s\u00fbr, Car Care Business \/ Le Garagiste.<\/p>\n

Dave a \u00e9t\u00e9 reconnu comme t\u00e9moin expert par les tribunaux de l’Ontario<\/a> et a utilis\u00e9 son expertise m\u00e9canique pour effectuer des travaux d’expertise judiciaire aupr\u00e8s d’entreprises industrielles.<\/p>\n

Il a \u00e9t\u00e9 consultant, enseignant, et est devenu un diffuseur et la vedette de sa propre \u00e9mission, Neighbourhood Mechanic<\/em>, de 2006 \u00e0 2009 sur Canwest et Global. Avec sa voix tonitruante et son rire profond caract\u00e9ristique, il \u00e9tait un naturel ! Avec de nombreuses heures d’antenne \u00e0 son actif, vous pouviez trouver Dave sur diverses \u00e9missions de radio et de t\u00e9l\u00e9vision, de la CBC \u00e0 TSN. Dave’s Corner Garage<\/em>, du nom de son atelier, est diffus\u00e9 sur Zoomer Radio et Sirius depuis 18 ans.<\/p>\n

Une passion pour les gens<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Tous ces \u00e9l\u00e9ments ont permis de mettre en \u00e9vidence la passion de Dave pour son travail et les personnes qui l’entourent. \u00c0 l’antenne, il semblait avoir une conversation amusante avec son \u00e9quipe, plaisantant tout en expliquant aux auditeurs et aux appelants comment leurs probl\u00e8mes pouvaient \u00eatre r\u00e9solus. La plaisanterie facile et les explications d\u00e9taill\u00e9es \u00e9taient sa marque de commerce ; Dave croyait que les consommateurs devaient \u00eatre \u00e9duqu\u00e9s, que la r\u00e9paration automobile devait \u00eatre un processus transparent.<\/p>\n

Et bien que Dave \u00e9tait un m\u00e9canicien dou\u00e9, un homme d’affaires avis\u00e9 et un mentor, il mettait toute son \u00e9nergie dans la t\u00e2che \u00e0 accomplir, quelle que soit sa taille. Il appr\u00e9ciait la g\u00e9n\u00e9rosit\u00e9 de l’industrie \u00e0 son \u00e9gard et a voulu rendre la pareille. Lorsque l’Automotive Training Centre lui a demand\u00e9 d’enseigner quelques heures par semaine \u00e0 des \u00e9tudiants en pr\u00e9apprentissage, il a accept\u00e9 sans h\u00e9siter. Ces \u00e9tudiants ont eu la chance d’apprendre les bases de la r\u00e9paration automobile, y compris les aspects commerciaux, aupr\u00e8s de l’un des meilleurs.<\/p>\n

Tout ce que Dave Redinger faisait, il le faisait avec fiert\u00e9. Il aimait son travail, les gens qui l’entouraient ; ils \u00e9taient comme une seconde famille pour lui. Il peut certainement \u00eatre fier de son h\u00e9ritage, et ceux d’entre nous qui l’ont connu, ou qui ont lu ses mots dans cette publication, en sont meilleurs.
