Si l\u2019\u00e9conomie roule \u00e0 fond et que les pays producteurs de p\u00e9trole r\u00e9duisent leurs livraisons, les prix vont monter. L\u2019inverse s\u2019applique comme nous l\u2019avons constat\u00e9 lors du ralentissement des activit\u00e9s entra\u00een\u00e9es par la pand\u00e9mie. Des tensions politiques ou des catastrophes naturelles rendent aussi impossible la pr\u00e9vision des prix \u00e0 long terme.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0La reprise de la demande advenant une croissance des activit\u00e9s \u00e9conomiques combin\u00e9e aux tensions entre les \u00c9tats-Unis et la Russie ou encore l\u2019Iran, pourraient ainsi faire monter les prix dans l\u2019avenir, explique M.\u00a0Brennan. Toutefois, si les pays producteurs ouvrent les robinets, que les \u00c9tats-Unis augmentent leur production ou qu\u2019un nouveau variant du virus fait son apparition, les prix pourraient baisser.\u00a0\u00bb Bref, difficile de pr\u00e9dire l\u2019avenir.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Geler les prix<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>La formule de couverture dont parle M. Brennan permet \u00e0 une entreprise de services publics, de livraison commerciale, de transport, ou \u00e0 une municipalit\u00e9 comptant un parc de v\u00e9hicules, de s\u2019entendre avec une firme sp\u00e9cialis\u00e9e sur le prix pay\u00e9 pour le carburant sur une p\u00e9riode allant d\u2019un mois \u00e0 deux ans sur des volumes \u00e9tablis. En fait, toute entreprise ou organisation qui consomme plus de 10\u00a0000 litres de carburant (essence comme di\u00e9sel) peut se pr\u00e9valoir d\u2019un prix fixe.<\/p>\n<p>La firme de hedging ne fournit pas le carburant\u00a0; l\u2019entreprise continue de s\u2019approvisionner chez son fournisseur habituel. \u00c0 la fin du mois, si le prix pay\u00e9 \u00e9tait sup\u00e9rieur la firme va rembourser la diff\u00e9rence et si l\u2019entreprise a pay\u00e9 moins cher, elle lui versera la diff\u00e9rence. Le gestionnaire de parc pourra aussi acheter du carburant librement, au prix courant, pour les volumes qui ne sont pas couverts par l\u2019entente.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0Ce n\u2019est pas une formule pour sp\u00e9culer et faire de l\u2019argent sur les cours p\u00e9troliers, insiste M. Brennan, mais elle permet de geler le poste de d\u00e9pense li\u00e9 au carburant. Il n\u2019est pas toujours facile pour une entreprise de glisser l\u2019augmentation \u00e0 ses clients lors de hausses du prix des carburants.
