Innovative roof charging system will soon be available in North America.

Hyundai’s new Sonata Hybrid will be available with a solar roof charging system, which will charge the vehicle’s battery even while driving. The company says that with this new technology, 30 to 60% of a car’s battery can be charged with solar energy.

“The technology allows our customers to actively tackle emissions issues,” said Heui Won Yang, Senior Vice President and head of the Body Tech Unit at Hyundai Motor Group. “We are striving to further expand the application of the technology beyond [our] eco-friendly vehicle line up to vehicles with internal combustion engines.”

The new Sonata is now on sale in Korea and will soon be sold in North America.
