The 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 with the new 3.0L Duramax turbo-diesel engine delivers full-size truck capabilities with this highway fuel efficiency of family sedans.

The 2020 Silverado 1500 with its new diesel engine delivers an estimated 7.2L/100 km highway and 10.2L/100 km city in rear-wheel-drive models and estimated fuel efficiency of 8.0L/100 km highway and 10.4L/100 km city for four-wheel-drive models.

Rated an SAE-certified 277 hp and 460 lb ft of torque, this particular Silverado can tow up to 9,300 lbs and a max payload of 1,870 lbs.

“We designed the all-new Silverado and the all-new 3.0L Duramax turbo-diesel to deliver both performance and efficiency,” said Tim Herrick, Silverado Executive Chief Engineer. “The engine utilizes state-of-the-art technologies to optimize every drop of fuel and takes advantage of architectural changes to make Silverado larger, lighter, and more aerodynamic than before. The resulting combination offers all of the performance, refinement, and capability customers want in a full-size truck, with the highway fuel efficiency you would expect from a family sedan.”

Using innovative technologies for excellent fuel economy, the Silverado uses:

  • An inline-six engine for inherently balanced configurations for low noise and vibrations characteristics;
  • An exhaust brake available in tow-haul mode;
  • A driver-selectable start and stop technology that shuts off the engine at stoplights and other stop-and-go situations to save fuel. The engine restarts when the driver removes his foot from the brake;
  • The 3.0 L Duramax paired with a Hydra-Matic 10L80 10-speed automatic transmission.

“We set out to offer light-duty truck customers the best of diesel–outstanding fuel economy, great horsepower, and responsive torque–plus unexpected levels of refinement,” said Nicola Menarini, Director for Diesel Truck Engine Program Execution. “We leveraged our global diesel expertise to make sure the all-new 3.0L Duramax turbo-diesel engine offers the impressive performance and durability our truck customers demand.”

The Duramax 3.0L turbo-diesel is Chevrolet’s third diesel truck in the Canadian lineup, alongside the Colorado and Silverado HD. The Silverado 1500 increases customer choice through eight trims paired with six engine and transmission combinations, and is available on the LTZ and High Country, trim for $3,245, and the LT and RST trim for $4,830 increase over a 2.7L TurboLengine.

Customer deliveries for the 2020 Silverado 1500 begin in the fall.
