Cadillac adds more miles to Super Cruise.

Cadillac is adding an additional 70,000 miles of compatible, divided highways in the United States and Canada to be available for hands-free driving by the Q4 2019, bring the total up to 200,000 miles by the fourth quarter of the year.

Till now, Super Cruise has been available on more than 130,000 miles of limited-access freeways, However, by utilizing the combination of precision LiDAR map data, high-precision GPS, a state-of-the-art Driver Attention System, and a network of camera and radar sensors, Super Cruise can evolve to enable boosted functionality for the 2018 and 2019 Cadillac CT6.

Additional features include:

  • limited intersections and traffic control devices;
  • the system alerting drivers to take back control of the car in case of railroad crossings, pedestrian crossings, stoplights, and stop signs;
  • the new, additional map miles sent to customer vehicles over the air through the summer and fall; and
  • performance, Super Cruise availability, and Driver Attention System enhancements.

“We are constantly working to make Super Cruise the most beneficial system for our customers,” said Mario Maiorana, Super Cruise Chief Engineer. “Expanding our offering of compatible highways will allow people the ease and convenience of traveling hands-free more often.”

Based on customer feedback, Cadillac has updated it driver assistance features so that Super Cruise activation is easier for the driver, dynamic lane offset helps the CT6 can adjust when passing large vehicles, and gauge cluster messages can inform drivers why Super Cruise may not be available in certain circumstances.

Currently, the super Cruise is available on the 2018 and 2019 Cadillac CT6 and will also be available on the 2020 CT6 and CT5 sedan next year.
