Bentley Motors invests in sustainable energy with solar panel installation.
Bentley Motors recently installed the UK’s largest ever solar carport at its factor headquarters in Crewe, UK, which means that the company uses solar or certified green electricity to manufacture every Bentley.
Approximately 10,000 solar panels have been installed, with a capacity of 2.7 MW, and cover 1,278 car parking spaces and an area of roughly two football pitches (16,426 m2). The investment could also help reduce CO2 by 3,3000 tonnes per year.
“It’s important to look ahead and prepare the business for the next 100 years by investing significantly in our products, our people and our site infrastructure. This includes new initiatives that reinforce our commitment to the environment,” said Peter Bosch, Bentley’s Member of the Board for Manufacturing.
He adds, “Whether this is introducing alternative powertrain technologies in future models, or our award-winning work to reduce the environmental impact of our factory, these sustainable measures strengthen our desire to lead the way in sustainable luxury mobility.
The solar carport improves Bentley’s total on-site energy capacity to 7.7MW, enough to cover 1,750 homes. Moreover, with the solar panels that were previously installed on the rooftop in 2013, the total number of individual solar panels on site in Crewe now equal 30,815.
The carport was installed by FlexiSolar, the innovative solar carport specialist with the project backed by Innovate UK, which supports science and technology initiatives to grow the UK economy.
