Nissan’s newest 100% electric car, Leaf e+, has more power and range.
The Leaf e+ has increased energy density, with a 62-kWh battery pack, and a higher output of its powertrain than its recent predecessor. Therefore, the vehicle’s range increases by approximately 40%, with the NRCan range up to 363 kilometres.
“The new Nissan Leaf e+ offers all of the style, convenience and electric vehicle benefits that have helped make LEAF the best-selling electric vehicle in the world, plus even more driving excitement, range, power and choice,” said Denis Le Vot, Senior Vice President and Chairman, Nissan North America “Customers now have a selection of powertrains and models to best suit their driving needs and budgets.”
The company has also improved the car’s Intelligent Mobility, making it more “efficient and sustainable.” The battery and the 160kW motor provide 45% more power and the 250 lb-ft (340Nm) of torque allows for accelerating 13% faster.
The e+ further offers a more intuitive and responsive ProPILOT assist and e-Pedal operation system, allowing for a smoother and safer ride for drivers.
The Leaf e+ will be marketed as “Leaf PLUS” in Canada and United States, with each trim level receiving its own designation of S Plus, SV PLUS and SL PLUS.
North American sales are scheduled to begin in spring 2019. Prices in Canada will be announced closer to on-sale date.
