“Peak Performance” event attracts fleet professionals across Canada.

Fleet professionals from the Greater Toronto Area, and beyond, recently enjoyed an afternoon program hosted by FCA Canada’s fleet team. The Fleet Fall Tour started in Edmonton on Oct 18, with stops in Toronto and Calgary (Oct 25) and Vancouver (Oct 30).

The star of the show was the all-new 2019 Ram 1500, a top fleet seller for FCA. For the new model year, the 1500 boasts a 5,783 kg max towing capacity, as well as a 1,043 max payload. FCA says the new truck has the largest brakes in its class, numerous safety and security features, and is available with a huge Tesla-sized 12-inch touchscreen display with Uconnect.

FCA’s guests also had the opportunity to learn about the 2019 Jeep Cherokee, which is now available with a new 2.0L turbo engine, and boasts “best-in-class 4×4 capability.” The 2019 Jeep Compass was also on hand for all to see and test drive.

On the technology front, FCA demonstrated the intuitive and easy to use fourth generation Uconnect system, featuring Apple CarPlay and Android Auto—a must for hands-free operation of today’s sophisticated smartphones.

Five year plan

Ken Tuckey, Senior Manager, National Fleet and Commercial Vehicles, FCA Canada shared the company’s “5 Year Plan” with the audience. He explained that FCA is putting an emphasis on electrification, with the goal of introducing over 30 electrified nameplates by 2022.

He also explained what each of the brands under the FCA umbrella have planned for the next few years. Jeep, for example, is focused on continued global growth, including entry into three yet-to-be-named new vehicle segments. The ultimate goal is for one in every five utility vehicles sold in the world will be a Jeep. Ram intends to build on customer loyalty to become the second largest player in the commercial vehicle segment in North America

The half-day program included in-class sessions, as well as an outdoor test track where fleet managers and FMC representatives, along with media, had an opportunity to try out all the vehicles on a variety of road surfaces.
