New research shows that 1.9 million Ontario motorists have driven under the influence of cannabis.

A CAA commissioned Ipsos study shows that 1.9 million Ontario motorists have driven under the influence of cannabis, and over 735,000 have done so in the last three months.

In addition, over 200,000 individuals consumed cannabis and alcohol or another mixed substances before getting behind the wheel in the last 3 months.

According to the survey, those who drive under the influence of cannabis are more likely to be male (69 per cent), between the ages of 25 and 34, and novice drivers (39 per cent).

“There is a common perception that cannabis users feel that they drive better when under the influence of the drug,” said Elliott Silverstein, Manager, Government Relations, CAA SCO. “This research shows that that is not necessarily the case…”
