Holographic augmented reality navigation system promises to enhance in-car experience.
Hyundai has announced a new investment in a tech startup with the aim of expediting the development of a holographic augmented reality (AR) navigation system for future vehicles.
The technology is capable of projecting a display that covers the entire front windshield, as well as the vehicle’s side windows, to provide passengers with a variety of infotainment services.
The system will be able to display traffic information on the road through the windshield, and promises improved driving directions based on the car’s speed, including real-time information about crosswalks, pedestrians, roads and warning signs.
Hyundai is planning to implement the new AR system into vehicles as early as 2020.
