Consumers as young as 20 years of age can now rent a vehicle.

Dollar and Thrifty (part of Hertz) have lowered the minimum age to rent a car from 21 to 20 years old in most of the United States and Canada, except for Michigan, New York and Quebec, where the minimum age will remain at 18 as required by law.

Hertz says the move is all about attracting younger customers. “Lowering the minimum age requirement at our Dollar and Thrifty locations will give more customers the opportunity to rent a vehicle while creating a new generation of customers who appreciate Dollar and Thrifty values,” said Paul Stone, Chief Retail Operations Officer, Hertz.
