Assembly-line production and sales of Volvo’s FL Electric, the company’s first mass production all-electric commercial vehicle, will begin in 2019 in Europe.

With the launch of this product, Volvo Trucks believe that it will have a significant head start in the field of electrified urban transportation and distribution solutions. The Volvo FL Electric platform is suitable for urban distribution, refuse collection, and similar requirements.

It’s important to highlight that sister company Volvo Bus has delivered over 4000 electric buses since 2010. Another item worth mentioning is the fact that the technology used to operate and store energy in the Volvo FL Electric has already been rigorously tested and tried along with sales, maintenance and replacement part distribution, in collaboration with the extensive Volvo Truck network.

The Volvo FL Electric is powered by a 185 kW electric motor which is mated to a two-speed transmission and driveshaft assembly which drives the rear axle. The vehicle has an autonomy of 300 km while taking between one and two hours to recharge via a high-output charging station. Overnight charging requires a full 10 hours to completely recharge the 300 kWh capacity batteries.
