Toyota claims this new Prius Prime 2017 offers much more than just a new moniker. The Plug-In hybrid, for which the MSRP has not yet been released, can travel as far as 965 km with a full tank and complete recharge.

The manufacturer states that it has improved fuel consumption by 22% compared to the Prius Plug-In, which works out to a 1.96 litres per 100 km with a full charge.

More powerful, the new lithium-ion battery stocking system of this hybrid allows the Prius Prime to be driven in full electric mode for twice the distance of the Prius Plug-In, which equates to 35 km. Toyota believes that the average Canadian can do the majority of their daily city driving without consuming a single drop of fuel.

“At Toyota, we are rethinking and reshaping the automotive industry for the future of transportation. When the Prius Prime will hit showroom floors, it will be the most technologically advanced and fuel-efficient vehicle that we have ever offered to Canadians,ˮ explained Toyota Canada Vice-President, Cyril Dimitris. The Prius Prime is raising the standard to extreme heights on every level, from the performance of its powertrain to its handling, styling, safety and much more.
