On September 18, Cox Automotive and representatives from different automotive industry organizations came together for the very first Habitat for Humanity Canadian Automotive Industry Build.
The event took place at 3075 Merritt Avenue in Mississauga, Ont. and saw Cox Automotive Canada, along with representatives from BMO, Canadian Black Book, CARFAX Canada, Desjardins, Hyundai Canada, Scotiabank, TD and UCDA come together for this milestone event.
Before the actual building began, a press conference was held for gathered volunteers, executives and members of the media.
The significance of this project cannot be overstated. Maria Soklis, President, Cox Automotive Canada, noted that this first automotive industry Habitat build saw different companies, many of them competitors, coming together for a single and very worthy cause.
“Affordable home ownership is really important to us, not just as individuals but as an industry. We are absolutely delighted and honoured to be here today, to come together and support those in need here in Canada.”
Mark Rodgers, President & CEO, Habitat for Humanity Canada added, “I believe very strongly what everybody is doing here today reflects on our organization as a whole. The family that will live in this house have faced a long and hard journey toward home ownership. What we are doing is not only putting a roof over their heads but the ground underneath their feet.
This coming together for the very first automotive industry build is a very exciting milestone for us and we hope it continues. Events like this bring corporate and community partners together to not only create home ownership but strengthen the community as a whole.”
