New manufacturing facility is located in Chengdu, China.

Polestar recently announced the opening of its first production facility, along with news that the company has a World Manufacturing Identifier, which officiates the Polestar as a standalone car company.

The new facility, located in Chengdu, China will produce the Polestar 1 Electric Performance Hybrid for both China and global markets, with customer deliveries expected to begin before the end of 2019.

“Here in Chengdu we are not only manufacturing a premium hybrid-electric performance car,” said Thomas Ingenlath, Chief Executive Officer of Polestar. “We have also created an inspirational manufacturing environment, a great place to work and visit. It truly reflects the Polestar brand.”

Polestar says their Production Centre will be one of the most environmentally responsible car factories in China, and that the facility “was conceived with the goal of achieving Gold status in the globally recognized LEED ratings (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design).”

Five hundred Polestar 1 cars are planned to be built per year in the new Chengdu facility, with a total of 1,500 planned over a three-year production cycle.
