The 2020 Subaru Outback will go on sale this fall in Canadian dealerships at a starting price of $30,695.

The manufacturer promises several new features in areas such as connectivity, safety, and comfort, starting with the Subaru EyeSight advanced driving assistance system and LED headlights, which are now standard. Driving assistance technology includes adaptive cruise control, lane departure and sway warning, lane change assist, and lead vehicle start alert.

Built to protect occupants in the event of a collision, the new Subaru SUV’s global platform, combined with the increased use of structural adhesives and high-strength steel, also contribute to improved responsiveness and driving dynamics. Additionally, torsional and front-suspension rigidity is increased by 70% while rear subframe rigidity is improved by 100% compared to the previous Outback platform. According to Subaru, these combined elements allow the structure of the 2020 Outback to absorb 40% more energy than the previous model in frontal and lateral collisions.

As for vehicle connectivity, in a first for Canada, Subaru is launching STARLINK connected services. Available on most versions with a free three-year subscription, it is connected to the nationwide 4G LTE cellular network and completely independent of the customer’s cell phone. The system allows drivers to stay connected to the vehicle while allowing them to receive safety information. The integrated system uses voice-response technology combined with live assistance for features such as automatic collision notification and emergency and roadside assistance requests, as well as concierge services.

The 2020 Outback also features a selection of new engines with varying degrees of performance that place a premium on fuel efficiency. The first is the 2.5L SUBARU BOXER engine, which has been virtually overhauled, as 90% of its parts are new. The direct-injection engine features a stop-start function to reduce fuel consumption and emissions. This new engine produces 182 hp and 176 lb-ft of torque. Performance buffs will also be able to choose the optional 2.4L SUBARU BOXER turbocharged engine, which pumps out 260 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque.

For Canada, the 2020 Subaru Outback is available in seven versions: Convenience, Touring, Limited, Premier, Outdoor XT, Limited XT, and Premier XT.
