Mercedes-Benz is the first manufacturer to adopt the what3words navigation system that offers precise location services by assigning three-word descriptors to every 3m x 3m square of the planet.

This summer, Mercedes-Benz is partnering with top musical talent to bring the what3words voice navigation system to the Canadian market. The what3word system assigns a unique three-word address to every 3m x 3m square of the world, which means users can input three words by voice or text to find precise locations, based on the simplest description of the destination.

The driver uses the voice command “Navigate to what3words,” followed by the three-word address, found on what3words.com or its mobile app. So far, the service is only available in English and on select new Mercedes-Benz vehicles from the model year 2019 onwards, that are equipped with the latest COMAND generation or MBUX infotainment system and linked to a Mercedes Me account.

Mercedes-Benz Canada teamed up with different artists to create an original video series showing how the system is used daily, beginning with the Montreal-based singer-songwriter Charlotte Cardin taking a tour of Montreal. In mid-August, Allie X will journey through Toronto, as will The Strumbrellas in September.
