Governments lift steel and aluminum tariffs.

The Canadian Automobile Dealers Association (CADA), the national association for franchised automobile dealerships that sell new cars and trucks, congratulated the Canadian and United States governments for lifting the steel and aluminum tariffs.

“The automobile industry has been particularly affected with steel and aluminum being key to vehicle production. Today’s agreement by both governments’ is good for the economy, good for consumers and good for dealers,” states CADA CEO, John White.

These tariffs disrupted the North-American supply chain and added unnecessary costs for businesses and consumers. Their removal, along with the automotive side letters negotiated under CUSMA, signifies a great achievement for Canada and the entire auto industry.

“Today I spoke with the Prime Minister’s Office and thanked them for maintaining a focus on getting the steel and aluminum tariffs dropped,” said Huw Williams of CADA’s Ottawa office. “The automotive side letter signed last fall was a significant achievement in protecting the auto sector and car consumers. This latest move to remove steel and aluminum tariffs is a great complement to the entire package.”
