The 2019 New York International Auto Show attracted in large crowds.
The New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo and actor-comedian Tracy Morgan kicked off the 2019 New York International Auto Show, which was held from April 19 to April 28 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Centre in New York, U.S.
During the opening of the event, Cuomo honoured U.S. Marine veteran Corporal Olivier Bagley, wounded in Operation Iraqi Freedom, with the donation of a 2019 Toyota RAV4. Cuomo also announced the creation of an Automotive Technician Task Force, to develop programs for training auto technicians and enable those participants to transition directly into the automotive industry.
Other entertainers included Sgt. Jeremy Gaynor, former voice contestant, West Point band, and Anna Eilinsfeld, a Broadway star from Pretty Woman the Musical.
Following the opening of the event, the World Car Awards began, where automobiles, selected by a jury of 86 prominent international automotive journalists from 24 countries around the world, were given awards based on innovation, leadership, and excellence. Some of the awards that were handed out were the 2019 World Luxury Car, 2019 World Green Car of the Year, 2019 World Car Design of the Year, 2019 World Performance Car, and 2019 World Car of the Year.
The theme
The press conferences were next, introducing the new lineup for 2019 and 2020 vehicles by different manufacturers. The theme of the show revolved around new designs, technological innovation, energy efficiency, and power and performance for both new cars and trucks.
Some of the vehicles that were discussed were:
- The Kia HabaNiro – all-wheel-drive (AWD), four-seater with an all-electric range of 482 km and level five autonomous mode;
- The Lincoln Corsair – a five-passenger, two-rose compact luxury crossover;
- The Genesis Mint concept – the all-electric luxury car; and
- The Toyota Highlander – a 2020 model that comes in a gas version and a hybrid version.
