Going Places

As human beings, our natural instinct is to progress.

Whether it’s moving forward in business, skills, acumen or raising and nurturing a family, as a species we are always striving to do better, to reach the next level and keep moving.

In this issue, our cover story focuses on Simplicity Car Care, an industry brand and network that has achieved a tremendous amount in a short period of time. During our interview with the senior management team, it became clear that this isn’t so much a network but a movement—one that aims to raise the bar in not only standards of repairs and customer service but the quality of life for those who work hard to do what is, in my opinion, one of the toughest jobs in the world.

A huge responsibility

Think about it: Today’s road vehicles are some of the most complex products on the planet and whether we agree or not, their purchase and safe use enables our economy to function. Without them, things would literally grind to a halt. Therefore, finding ways to improve a business in which all stakeholders benefit is an exemplary strategy and something we should all closely observe. Given all that Simplicity Car Care has accomplished so far, we can’t wait to see what’s in store during the years and months ahead.

Sticking with process, repair equipment and how it’s used is a key part of shop operations, including benches and welders. The radical change in vehicle construction and design has facilitated a new breed of repair equipment that is as advanced as the vehicles it’s designed to fix. And as long as we’re able to find and train people to utilize it effectively, our industry will continue to progress.

Recognition

At present, the entire automotive industry seems to be edging to a future of electric powertrains and autonomous technology. Much of this direction to me seems highly political and if you dig beneath the surface, you’ll probably find everything isn’t quite as it seems. Nonetheless, when you look at the big picture, the automotive sector has some of the most dedicated, hardworking and committed people within it. Every one of us that works in this industry has a significant impact on the world around us, and I think that too often, that impact gets overlooked. So I, on behalf of the entire Collision Management team, would like to recognize each and every automotive professional for the difference they make. Here’s to you!
