Mitchell recently announced that in partnership with Bosch Automotive Service Solutions, it has included new updates to its dynamic special test coverage within the Mitchell Diagnostics solution.

As a part of its efforts to support proper and safe repairs, Mitchell Diagnostics now allows Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS) calibrations for dozens of popular vehicle models. Repairers can now do the recalibrations in-house for these vehicles.

ADAS systems such as a Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS), are designed to potentially prevent millions of collisions every year if they are used correctly. After vehicles have had front-end repairs or windshield replacements, it is often necessary to do dynamic calibrations.

Different from static special tests, dynamic calibrations do not require targets. Instead, repairers often need to use a highly specialized diagnostic device and may also be required to drive the vehicle during the testing process.

Dynamic special tests on Mitchell Diagnostics come with the following features:

  • For forward-facing collision avoidance systems, Mitchell Diagnostic solution contains built-in dynamic calibration routines.
  • Step-by-step instructions that are easy to understand also featured in the tests to provide assistance to repair technicians.
  • If driving is interrupted during the calibration, the system can pause and resume routines.

Mitchell has not levied any additional subscription charge for these capabilities. With their next update, all Mitchell Diagnostics users will automatically have access to these capabilities. This new addition aims at helping repairers improve their cycle time and customer satisfaction by enabling them to complete the calibrations in-house. Additionally, using their own tools and technicians to do the repairs may help shops increase their profitability. Since no per-vehicle fees are required for outsourcing the calibrations to a remote provider, mobile service, or dealership, the addition may be beneficial for repairers as well as insurers.

The dynamic special tests are designed to address several best-selling models from BMW, Chrysler/Jeep, Ford, GM, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mazda, Mitsubishi, and Volvo.

“Many collision repairers are looking to go beyond pre- and post-scanning and begin to perform more diagnostic work in-house,” says Jack Rozint, Vice President of Sales and Service, Mitchell International. “The team at Mitchell is dedicated to supporting collision repairers with the latest diagnostic technology and is proud to work with Bosch to assist in the repair and recalibration of ADAS systems on today’s complex vehicles.”

“Automotive safety systems have come a long way, and we’re glad to collaborate with Mitchell to provide the latest in ADAS calibration technology,” says Danijela Haskin, Product Manager, Bosch Automotive Service Solutions. “These latest updates extend Mitchell’s technical leadership in diagnostics for collision repairers throughout North America.”
