Carlson Body Shop Supply sponsored the Student Career Day segment at The Autorama World of Wheels in Calgary this February.

Undertaking this student-focussed initiative since 2006, the company has supported automotive educational programs at local schools. It aims at exposing students to the array of opportunities available in the industry through speakers, corporate support and event participation.

The career day segment took place before the opening of the World of Wheels event. Automotive school groups of high school and college level students participated in it. Participants got the chance to take part in the Carlson Sponsored “Pedal Car Challenge.” They restored, painted and built mini pedal cars, producing some unique and beautifully finished examples.

Automotive industry experts presented and spoke about the industry, including the career choices available for young people passionate about cars. As a bonus, participating students previewed the auto show before it was opened to the general public.

The students met with car owners and builders, participated in interactive exhibits and spoke to representatives from area colleges and tech schools, during the event. Several schools were also offering scholarship opportunities.

“Carlson & Color Compass is a proud sponsor of the World of Wheels Student Day Pedal car challenge. This is a unique opportunity to get in front of 400 plus young students, most of whom want to be in the trades. The industry we service (repair, refinish, restore) is challenged with finding the next generation of people.  Our goal was to arrange tours, through their schools, at shops that match the interest of potential candidates. We hope to arrange visits in April to Collision Repair, Dealership, and restoration shops throughout Southern Alberta,” said Alan Morasch, Southern Alberta Sales Manager with Carlson.

A ’57 Chevy restored and owned by Carlson customer, VC Customs, was on display at the Carlson Color Compass booth. It won first place in its car class and was recognized as the best of the show for interior upholstery.
