SHAD’s R&R For the Kids is now online.

The SHAD’s R&R Charity Golf Tournament is an annual fundraising event for Muscular Dystrophy Canada that takes place on the second Thursday in June. According to the association, it is the largest tournament in the Canadian Automotive Aftermarket and also the largest single-day fundraiser for muscular dystrophy.

The new SHAD’s R&R website offers registration details regarding the event, how people can support and contribute and the story of how and why it was started.

Fred Shaddick, the tournament’s namesake, was a leader and veteran of the automotive aftermarket who believed in giving back to the community. According to the SHAD’s R&R organization, he was the “genesis” for this massive industry event that aims at carrying his legacy forward.

The story has it that a small group of industry executives in 1973 were overcome by the feelings of “remorse and regret” after playing a round of golf. They sat down to reflect on how they had spent the day and came to the conclusion that an act of kindness would relieve them of their feelings. This was how SHAD’s R&R (remorse and regret) For the Kids came into being.

Since its inception, the tournament has been able to raise more than $5,200,000 for Muscular Dystrophy Canada. This year will mark the 47th edition of the event. Scheduled to be held at Station Creek Golf & Country Club in Stouffville, Ontario on June 11, the event is expected to bring together around 300 aftermarket leaders from across Canada and the U.S.
