Thursday, September 10, 2009 CCIF Skills Program Promotes Collision Repair at WorldSkills Calgary
Last week at WorldSkills Calgary the Collision Repair Industry made a big impression on the 200,000 people in attendance, thanks in part to the CCIF Skills Program. The industry was represented in two separate Try-a-Skill venues during the 4 day event, giving thousands of students an opportunity to try Virtual Painting. The equipment, provided by the University of Northern Iowa Waste Reduction Center, allows the student to “paint” with a computerized paint gun on a screen showing a car part, and then provides feedback on their performance. The aim was to “spark” the student’s interest in car painting. It also got some serious media attention. Mike Holmes tried virtual painting, and Leanne Blackborow, director of the CCIF Skills Program was given the opportunity to promote the industry in a “live” interview on Global News. (LB)
